Update Sellers To Be Concerned About

Protection from scammers on the internet is a concern shared by many collectors who purchase high dollar vintage cards. Even when purchasing a card which is graded by a reputable grading service a buyer is never sure until they have the item in their hands. Many types of scams can ouccur with graded cards, the most popular tpyes are the pirated scan scam and the empty box scam.

The first scam is simple and is generally tried by sellers with little or no feedback rating. In this scam the seller simply steals the scan of a completed auction an uses it as their own to represent that they are selling that particular card. The second is a little more involved but also simple. Here the seller will send out an empty package with delivery confirmation to the buyer. Since most buyers will use Paypal to make purchases in order to protect themselves, when they receive the empty package they file a complaint. What the purchaser doesn't realize is that when you file a complaint with Paypal for not receiving the item, in most cases Paypal will accept the delivery confirmation from the seller as proof of the buyer receiving the item and it's case closed.

The way to protect yourself against this type of fraud is simple, use the services of an escrow agent. There are many out there and although this will add about 3-4% to your final cost I think that spending the extra money to protect yourself against a scam is well worth it. Make sure that before you place a bid you contact the seller and make them aware that you intend to complete your transaction in this manner if you win the item, so that there are no misunderstandings. If they tell you they will not accept those terms our advice is not to bid, there will always be another card. is one of the companies Ebay recomends for use in transactions over $500.00.

Now for this weeks "Sellers To Be Concerned About"
Seller: poker_crazy This seller has been purchasing reprint 86' Fleer Jordan's for the past several months specifically items# 5214017001, and 5216566741 . I guess it is time for him to dump them on unsuspecting buyers since he now brings us:
86 Fleer Michael Jordan Rookie Item #5243909223
Please notice the the similarity to item number 5214017001 which was purchased on 7/4/05 from dollar_enterprises both cards are off center to the right. Is this a coincedence?
Special thanks to member timzcardz for this report

Seller: executive17 The private feedback should be enough to make you hit the back button on your brower. The seller has purchased cards in the past from bad sellers such as dearchicago. In his description he tells us this "1952 TOPPS MICKEY MANTLE IT HAS NOT BEEN AUTHENTICATED BY A THIRD PARTY SO I MUST LIST THIS AS A REPRINT NO WHERE ON THE CARD DOES IT SAY REPRINT THIS IS VERY NICE I HAVE HAD THIS FOR MANY YEARS"
1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 Item# 5243791053
1951 Mickey Mantle 253 Bowman Item # 5243749951
T206 Honus Wagner Item # 5243745221
1953 Mickey Mantle 83 Topps Item # 5243792596
1963 Pete Rose #537 Topps Item# 5244163191

Seller: lube992003 Has a history of bidding on bad Mantle's if they have purchased one or several in the past it wouldn't surpirse us. He tells us this " This card is not graded, but does not look like a reprint. It is in decent condition considering the age of the card. You can see the condition of the front and back of the card in the pictures below. Sorry, the scan isn't very good. As per ebay policy, since it is not graded it is being sold as a reprint, but like I said, it doesn't look like one. "
